Jose Luis Migoya Vargas
Jose Luis Migoya has extensive experience in tax consulting within multinational groups and companies, particularly in taxation of both national and international large taxpayers.
His areas of expertise and experience include consulting and active participation in investment and divestment processes, planning for business restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, transfer prices and tax inspections in different jurisdictions, among others.
He has held leadership roles in many tax-related processes: tax accounting, tax compliance, tax Audit, risk management, etc.
He has also participated in the implementation of management and reporting systems, as well as the development of process automation and risk control projects in the tax field.
Before joining Laffer Abogados, he developed his professional career in the tax department of the Spanish multinational group Iberdrola for almost 27 years (between 1994 and 2021), holding the position of International Tax Director of the group for the last 10 years, coordinating and directing the teams and tax matters for countries such as the United Kingdom, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, Australia and other European countries and other jurisdictions. Previously, he started his professional career at Arthur Andersen, practicing in the tax area in the Barcelona and Bilbao offices for 5 years (1990-1994).
He has been a regular speaker at seminars and events on tax matters organized by different firms, associations and organizations, both in Spain and abroad.
Author of several technical articles published in different national and international media, and occasional contributor to other publications and books before joining Laffer Abogados.
Degree in Economic and Business Sciences from Deusto Business School (1988).
Executive Master’s MBA from the University of Nebrija (2007), in Madrid.
Other diverse training activities, both technical and in direction and management, in institutions such as the International Institute for Management Development-IMD (Lausanne, Switzerland), ESADE Business School, IESE and IE Business School, among others. Participation in various professional events and conferences in many countries.
Active member of different professional organizations: Basque Association of Economists, Registry of Tax Advisor Economists (REAF), Spanish Association of Tax Advisors (AEDAF), Spanish Association of Financial Law (AEDF), International Fiscal Association (IFA), and Tax Executives Institute (TEI).
He has been a member of the Tax Committees of UNESA (Spanish Electricity Industry Association), AmCham in Spain and the in-house advisors of the AEDAF.
